If guests choose to stay in his charming private home/lodge, Hacienda La Nellita, they will find seven bedrooms with bath, lounge areas, bar, dining room, roomy exterior patio, satellite television, Jacuzzi, and telephone, internet and fax access. If hunters prefer a hotel-type atmosphere, they can stay in the new, first-class Plaza Obregon Hotel, just about four blocks from La Nellita. Whatever the choice, guests enjoy small groups, gracious service, security and the personal touch of Ruiz’ well-trained staff. Delicious meals of tender beef, fresh seafood, wild game and Mexican specialties are served by attentive waiters, and the open bar includes selections from Chivas Regal to “top shelf” margaritas. Hotel guests also have the option of going out to dinner at one of the city’s fine restaurants.

The season for Gabino’s Yaqui Valley Hunting — dove, duck and quail — runs generally from November 1 to early March. The climate is a dream for outdoor activities, with cool to cold mornings and mild to warm afternoons. Dress at dinner is casual.
