Aztec

The lodge was built specifically for whitewing hunting, and drives to the fields are sometimes as close as twenty minutes. It is a large facility, with beautiful flower gardens and landscaping flowing over ten acres. There are 24 large guestrooms (single and double occupancy) in a series of four-plexes, each with private patio. When the evening weather is pleasant, meals are often served outdoors around the pool and gardens. The dining at Aztec is worth the trip alone — including sumptuous northern and central Mexico recipes, seafood direct from the Gulf of Mexico, unique game dishes and lavish desserts

Casa Grande

Casa Grande’s key amenity is its close proximity to the U.S. border — the lodge is located less than a one-hour drive from the Laredo, TX airport. The facility is quite new and modern — it was completed only three years ago — and it sits in a park-like setting with huge trees, flowers, fountains and pool. The bar adjacent to the pool has a margarita machine and a huge selection of international liquors.

The De La Garzas prefer small parties in order to provide abundant shooting for all and the best of personal service. Sixteen large air-conditioned guestrooms and four suites are kept spotless by twice-daily maid service. The food service is overseen by the family matriarch, Irma De La Garza, and the lavish buffet-style dining is to be considered one of the highlights of the trip.

Paso Real

The lodge is a beautifully renovated and expanded former hotel on the edge of the city of San Fernando. Outfitter Ruiz offers single room accommodations (a rarity in Mexico), pool, outdoor palapa bar, hunting in close proximity to the lodge and a highly professional English-speaking staff. In the evenings, guests are pampered with hot appetizers and cocktails immediately upon arrival from the hunt, and dinners of steaks, fresh seafood, game specialties and local Mexican cuisine are plentiful and delicious. Twenty four guests makes the lodge private — all in single rooms.
