Eastern Mexico Whitewing Hunting
The ShootingThe AccomodationsPhoto Slide Show

Rod & Gun Resources has sent literally thousands and thousands of American sportsmen to hunt whitewing and mourning doves (and ducks, geese and quail) in Mexico’s northeastern states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon over the last 20 years. We have deep knowledge of all of the lodges and outfitters, and have long, successful relationships with the outfitters we have chosen to represent, and we of course know the operations with whom we have chosen not to work.

PASO REAL

Paso Real outfitter Frank Ruiz is one of Mexico’s most successful hunting operators, with respected programs both in Tamaulipas and in the western state of Sonora. His lodge is an extremely well located facility situated on the outskirts of the city of San Fernando—and as whitewing hunting veterans know, the vast grain fields and natural roosting area surrounding San Fernando are the center of prime habitat for literally millions of Tamaulipas’whitewing doves.

AZTEC LODGE

For well over a decade, Aztec Lodge (formerly called La Loma) has been the leader in volume dove shooting in Tamaulipas. American owner, Ralph Wilson, provides the highest level of food service and hospitality and is always pleased to accommodate special needs or requests. Aztec employs the largest staff of hunting guides in the whitewing business and has the vehicles and specialized equipment to provide good hunting in any conditions.

The best time to hunt at Aztec or Paso Real is from August 20 through September. Many seasons, the bird concentrations get better as the season progresses—until the migration begins in mid-October.
