El Patagon Fishing

El Patagon provides you with a once in a lifetime fly-fishing experience. You’ll find every water type and fishing condition that you’ve read and dreamed about. You’ll encounter large numbers of fish as well as a number of large fish. Both beginning and advanced anglers will enjoy fly fishing here. Styles range from wading and fishing big, easily seen dry flies and terrestrials to utilizing fast-sinking lines while drifting. Depending on when you are there, you may have the chance to see "white-out" caddis storms. It pays to listen to your guides and cast some of the flies they have specially created for this area.

Many of the waters around El Patagon were not fished until the lodge’s guides developed the techniques and brought in specialized boats to fish them. As is the case at Yan Kee Way Lodge, you’ll fish from the most productive platforms on all waters and in all conditions during the season. In short, you fish waters that others don’t access because they can’t! Float tubes and walk/wade trips are also offered to those who enjoy them. In fact, you reach one of the smaller rivers by a very pleasant horseback ride and it involves no boats at all.

The fishing and the scenery are both unrivaled. The variety of water types and the environment make this one of the most memorable fishing expeditions to be had anywhere in the world.

Yan Kee Way Fishing

(Lake Llanquihue — pronounced Yan Kee Way)
Yan Kee Way’s nearest and primary river, the renowned Petrohue, is believed by many to be one of the most scenic in South America. It is accessed normally by drifting, but it has numerous braids and many pools with runs suitable for wading. Fishing is usually very productive for both brown and rainbow trout from two to eight pounds. The river also serves up the occasional steelhead, Atlantic, chinook or silver salmon.

Beginning and experienced anglers alike will enjoy an unforgettable Chilean fly-fishing expedition on the rivers of Yan Kee Way. You may vary your fishing methods to suit your favorite style. Dry lines and dry flies, to sinking shooting heads and streamers, all take fish. Some of the nearby spring creeks require some technical skill, but offer some really large browns and rainbows — up to 28 inches — on nymphs and bugger-type patterns.

In general, anglers fishing from Yan Kee Way have three large rivers, six smaller rivers, two large lakes, three small lakes, a large spring creek, and nearby saltwater estuaries as options. Of course, fishing programs are structured to the season, hatches and local water conditions during your visit.
