Fishing in BoliviaBolivian Adventures' Caño Negro Lodge and mobile "Floating Lodge" offer every possible combination of angling adventure in remote, previously-unfished areas of northeastern Bolivia. Choose between lagoon or river fishing, spin casting, bait casting, or fly-fishing, or just relax and enjoy the picturesque surroundings and abundant wildlife. You will see macaws, parrots, storks, geese, ducks and unique animal species such as caiman and capybara in a lush, sub-tropical setting. A two-hour air charter from Las Palomas Hunting Lodge or Santa Cruz lands you at the Rio Negro/Rio San Simon fishing area and Caño Negro Lodge. Here, the mighty saber-tooth payara, river tiger of South America, offers the thrilling, tackle-busting fishing experience of a lifetime. Hailed as "tarpon on steroids", these payara range from five to twenty-five pounds and can exceed 50 pounds! Ten to fifteen hookups a day is the norm on big payara. In addition to payara, these river and lagoon systems have the highest concentrations of peacock bass found anywhere on earth. The peacocks here range from around three to twelve pounds and the daily catch numbers are amazing—it's common for one angler to land fifty to one hundred explosive-hitting peacocks a day! Other excellent gamefish include brawny pacu up to thirty pounds, brilliant yatoranas, muturos and surubi (giant catfish). Caño Negro Lodge is clean and comfortable, with spacious, air-conditioned guestrooms with private baths, a well-appointed dining room and an adjacent lounge and bar with a scenic view of the vast, live lagoons fed by springs and the Rio Negro. Bolivian Adventures' new "Floating Lodge" near the Bolivia-Brazil border (also a two hour charter flight), is another fantastic option for untouched, front door fishing for large payara and peacock bass, along with the many other species native to the Amazon basin. The Floating Lodge offers double-occupancy sleeping accommodations with air conditioning and nice bath facilities. Dining and lounge/bar are located on separate floating lodges. The food and service at both camps is the same high-standard found at Molina's Las Palomas Lodge. Guides are knowledgeable of the river systems and attentive with a myriad of boats and new outboards suited to the various rivers and conditions. For sheer numbers of fish and variety of species, no other location in the world offers better fishing than the Bolivian Amazonas region. |
